Your chosen family can include anyone who loves and supports you for who you are!

A chosen family is exactly what it sounds like: family who you choose! At its core, a chosen family is made up of people who love, see, and support you for being your truest self. There are lots of people who can be a part of your chosen family, and you get to pick who makes you feel the safest and bravest.

Madi Bourdon (she/they) is a Portland-based educator and activist dedicated to supporting the well-being of youth through inclusive spaces, mentorship, and empowerment, to aid in the development of a healthy sense of belonging for all kids. She is all about community, human connection, and being so authentically herself that others feel safe and empowered to do the same.

Wonderful!

Madi’s bright and colorful book playfully shows readers the diversity in important, meaningful connection with the default people in our lives, as well as with others that we can choose to compliment the family we’re given. A Kid’s Book About Chosen Family offers kids a storyline about safe expansion, connection, and care, and about the value we can find in relationships that might not fit a conventional narrative.
